Jaclyn Rosenberg is a native New Yorker. She grew up in Long Island, where she spent a great deal of her time outdoors. Jaclyn has fond childhood memories of attending weekend youth groups and summer camps and strongly believes that these experiences are what taught her how to build lasting friendships.  “As teachers, we constantly tell our students that they need to work together and respect each other in the classroom, but children need the opportunity to put that into practice. It’s outside the classroom, in real life situations, where children  find out what collaborative learning and cooperative play is all about,” Jaclyn says.

Jaclyn has been a 2nd grade classroom teacher for over 6 years and has spent the past 10 years working with children in grades Prek-6. She has worked with English language learners and students with disabilities in underprivileged schools.  Her teaching practice is aligned with the Common Core State Standards, while also being interactive and intellectually stimulating. Education through exploration is important to Jaclyn and she is dedicated to finding creative ways to build her children’s literacy skills.

Jaclyn holds a Masters degree from Hunter College in teaching English as a Second Language and she has received extensive training from Columbia's Teachers College. After school, she tutors children around lower Manhattan. Jaclyn has lived in Manhattan since she graduated from Indiana University’s School of Education in 2009. She enjoys spending her free time walking her dog around her Tribeca neighborhood and visiting the city’s museums, restaurants, parks and coffee shops!

Maggie Madden is originally from California, but has developed a love of New York City since moving here 8 years ago. Maggie moved here to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher and has been teaching in New York City public schools ever since. She traces her passion for teaching back to her childhood spent playing school in Sacramento, California. Maggie has also always had an affinity for traveling. She loves teaching in New York City because she gets to combine her two great loves and experience city explorations through the eyes of her students!

Maggie strongly believes in the importance of connecting children’s learning to real world experiences. When children have the opportunity to interact firsthand with concepts they have been studying, their learning is enhanced. Throughout her career, Maggie has developed a literacy based social studies curriculum that is centered around exploration around New York City.

Maggie graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a degree in social welfare and an emphasis on education reform and African American studies. During Maggie’s time as an undergrad, she spent a year studying abroad in Paris. Maggie attributes her deep love of exploring cities and embracing new cultures, art, and architecture to her experience roaming the streets of Paris with nothing but a map and her camera. After graduating, Maggie received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from Lehman College while participating in the Teach for America program. In her free time, Maggie enjoys traveling the world, photography, running, exploring the city, and visiting the Met.

WHO WE ARE

The idea for City Kid Explorer came from two teachers who have worked together in the NYC public school system since 2009. Jaclyn and Maggie quickly bonded over their love of teaching. They also share a love of travel and have visited over six countries together. They are combining these passions to offer children a way to explore the city and learn together in a hands on, stimulating way!
